Compton Acres

Compton Acres is located in Poole and is a wonderful array of Italian, Japanese and woodland gardens. My pictures here do not do it justice. The day my WiRE members and I visited was a wet day, unfortunately. So we started off with a good catch up and a coffee.

As we had a new lady join us, we did a quick introduction of what we all do and let her introduce herself to us. All new ladies are made to feel very welcome and usually always come back. When there was a break in the clouds and the sun came out, we had a quick trip around the gardens.

We shall definitely be returning to Compton Acres as it really is a pretty venue.

WiRE Conference – Optimising and Building your Brand

Although I have been a Network leader for over five years, this was the first time I had been to a WiRE conference. I went with two of my WiRE members and we travelled up together. It was a lovely day at the home of Wire at Harper Adams University.

I was honoured to be on the Q&A panel in the afternoon session, where I was asked to do a 10-minute presentation on Finance to the delegates. I was shaking as it was the first time, I had done anything like that before, but my talk went down well. You can see the details of my presentation via the link below.

Kingston Maurward Gardens, Dorchester

I like to make my events fun, interesting and varied. Our April 19 event was at Kingston Maurward Farm Park and Gardens. It was lovely to walk around and see the pigs, goats, and other farm animals in the farm park then have a wander around the gardens.

Afterwards, we had tea and cake in the café and had a good old chat and a catch-up.

Walford Mill Crafts & Millstream Bistro, Wimborne

It was a lovely sunny day for this event, and we met at the craft centre and had a walk around looking at the different crafts on display and had a lovely demo by a silk weaving lady.  Afterwards we went to the Millstream Bistro, which is a lovely old converted barn, where we had coffee and cakes and a good catchup.

Athelhampton House, Dorchester

Tour of house and gardens. Athelhampton House is a lovely Tudor mansion with lovely gardens to walk around. We had a lovely tour of the house and meandered around the beautiful gardens. A good time was had by all.

Wine tasting and Vineyard tour – We had a lovely tour of the Vineyard and learnt how English sparkling wine was made. Followed by wine tasting. What a treat!

Dorset WiRE Network Leadership

I set up my Dorset network a couple of years ago, as although I was already a WiRE member (Women in Rural Enterprise) there was no Dorset network.  So, I thought why not! I am excellent at organising things, like events and meetings, so I knew I already had the necessary skills to set up a network.  I really enjoy running it and I try to make the meetings varied and interesting. The meetings are very informal and friendly and not like other corporate networks. We meet up the second Tuesday of the month and usually in and around the Wimborne area of Dorset and I have members who visit from all over Dorset.  Saying that we are planning meetings towards Dorchester and Blandford area this year. We are a very friendly group of about 10-15 ladies and the group is growing all the time. As the events vary so much there is no fixed cost, but I do try to keep expenses to a minimum. Visitors can attend one of my groups twice before joining WiRE which is only £50 a year. For more information about my Dorset network or for any other events and information, visit the WiRE website www.wireuk.org
